Parks and Recreation

Duanesburg has two Town Parks available for our residents enjoyment. VanPatten Mill Park and The Robert B. Shaffer Memorial Park.

Due to recent vandalism the VanPatten Mill Park located at the corner of VanPatten and Depot Road has been closed to the public.

This park has basketball courts a softball field and horseshoe pits available for all ages. Swing sets and Jungle Gyms are available for the younger kids. You can bring your hot dogs and hamburgers and cookout on the barbecue grills located near the picnic tables.

The Robert B. Shaffer Memorial Park located across from the Duanesburg Elementary School off Route 7, is our newest park addition. It boasts three tennis courts, two basketball courts, soccer field, softball field and a nature walk. There are benches scattered around to sit and watch games or just relax and enjoy the sunset.

It is also the home of the Duanesburg Pop Warner Football League.

Across the street from the Shafer Memorial Park is the Community Playground located at the Duanesburg Elementary School. This wooden playground was constructed by volunteers and has fun activities for children of all ages.

Thanks to our continuing relationship with the Iroquois Pipeline through their LEAF (Land Enhancement and Acquisition Program) and local community groups we have a beautiful nature trail, landscaping and a new pavillion built in 2006.

The Town Board and the Park Committee are currently working on plans to erect a building to include restrooms and added storage for park equipment. This should be accomplished by the end of 2007. Many thanks to the Schenectady County Legislature for providing a grant of $100,000 to cover the cost.

Come and enjoy the great outdoors in our beautiful town!!
